Welcome to CCP U.S. History!
This is a college course taught through North Central State College and is a survey study of United States history and government with emphasis on analysis and writing skills. A strong background in history and honors English is strongly recommended. This class will receive a weighted grade for high school credit. The students will also earn a total of 6 semester hours of college credit.
The students in this class will:
Ø master a working knowledge of a broad range of historical events.
Ø interpret and apply data from a wide range of original source documents including letters, graphs, writings, recordings, pictures, drawings, etc.
Ø use historical data derived from sources and knowledge of events to defend and support a position on a historical topic.
Ø demonstrate an understanding of historical and literary chronology, being able to place events and movements into both.
Ø differentiate and evaluate between different historiographical schools of thought.
Ø develop and effectively use analytical skills to determine cause and effect relationships in the historical record and to compare and contrast movements and events.
Ø work effectively in groups to generate effective discussion, solve problems and create group projects.
Make sure you ask your student about the things they have learned daily. It is exciting for me to teach them about their past and to watch them develop as critical, analytical thinkers, growing into the role of citizens of our great nation.
If you have any questions please contact me.
